The Pacific is a new miniseries from Spielberg and Tom Hanks that chronicles the journey into the South Pacific during WWII of a handful of real life American war heroes, before, during and after their experience. Inspired by numerous firsthand accounts from the soldiers themselves who wrote memoirs, this show not yet on the air but looks to be the best show on television this year (check out the trailer below). Being a huge war buff, I cannot wait. Through my service provider, there is on demand interviews and behind the scenes looks following the characters this show is based off of. Each experienced the horrors of the Pacific around the same time, sometimes in the same platoon but they each had a different story.
What some of these men went through, one of which received the Medal of Honor who also was the extremely famous face of the Pacific war effort, is hard to fathom to a kid who never went into the military. I think that is why all of this is so interesting to me. The show clips look of no less quality then what we saw with Saving Private Ryan or Band of Brothers. Lots of big sound for the home theater system. But even more interesting then the studio driven bombs volleying around my surround sound speakers were the words of the elderly men who lived it firsthand.
Normally people think of a home theater system sold out of retailers like Value Smart Mart at http://www.valuesmartmart.com/ to be for big sound experiences, action movies, gaming and music but surround sound speakers work fantastic for a simple interview. Being able to crisply here every inflection in a person’s voice along with every word especially when a war veteran is recounting what he experienced is amazing.
Truth is always stranger and sometimes more frightening then fiction and by the looks of The Pacific this miniseries is going to portray such a story. I love how it is going to follow the soldiers after coming home. That is when the real battle starts for some of these veterans. Actors portraying men fighting with internal demons, questions of why and reintegrating into the world is best captured on a home theater system. Audio electronics are hard to live without after going even a week with them. I will never not have a home theater system after buying one online. It creates to awesome of an experience.
